We went back to Rust Street in our Chicago days… what great days.. but they just got better! Memories that will never be forgotten.. Always Danny.. My “Main Man”!

Carole March Vito

I never met anyone who didn’t love and respect Danny.
We met right out of high school and our talents gelled. We started rehearsing at Danny’s house and built up quite a repertoire so we began working gigs together. My favorite one was at Pigalle’s on Ernst Court in Chicago.  We earned a following and it was there that we honed our “Jackie and Roy” covers. Those were so much fun.
From there, The Danny Long Trio
made  an appearance on the popular Marty Faye Television show.
I’m enclosing a photo.
We continued working together until I auditioned and was hired as a staff singer at CBS/WBBM radio in Chicago.
Although our paths took different roads, we remained friends forever.
Trisha, do you remember when the entire Longo family visited Chicago and came over to our house for a lengthy Italian dinner?
I hadn’t seen Danny or your Mom in years at that point and so I planned a special dinner.
The opening course was linguini and clams that I chose especially for Danny.
Wasn’t I surprised when he announced at the table that he didn’t like clams! Thank God I’m Italian so we had a few more main courses that didn’t include clams!
After dinner Danny and I sat at the piano and reminisced and sang and played some songs that we used to sing together.
You Dad was a most incredible musician.
And he sang like a special Angel.
And Joe and Danny had a mutual admiration for each other and their talents.
Joe and I saw Danny and family at a party for him when he visited Chicago once again. We also heard him at Chambers where he always filled the place when appearing.
Your Dad and I remained dear friends even though we rarely saw each other. I spoke with him after your Mom went to Heaven and then a couple of months before he joined her. Theirs was a love affair that was so beautiful. They loved each other and their family above all things. They were an inspiration to so many.
I’m so lucky to have known Danny and to have worked with him professionally.
His music will live forever in my heart,  as  will our precious lifelong friendship.
The world needs more Danny and Danielles.
I learned so much from them. I loved them.
They made all of us better.

I had heard about Danny Long from Joe Pepitone during my time in Chicago. I didn’t get to meet him until I started doing Randy Hundley’s fantasy camps. For about 30 years I would go and sit in with him at Remingtons (and other venues), a lot of those years when he performed with Judy Roberts. He was always so gracious and I looked forward to my yearly visit to AZ. He also honored me by including  me in CUBBIE BLUE. He was the ultimate Chicago sports fan, a great musician and very special friend.

I MISS HIM!

After meeting and listening to Danny I had always wished (in my performing days) I could’ve worked with him. He was so talented as a pianist, singer and songwriter. I was lucky enough (after meeting my husband Carmen Fanzone) to get the chance to meet Danny, his beautiful wife and family.

God Bless You All.

Danny Long was always Poppa first to me and my siblings. I read all these terrific tributes about the man my grandfather was, and I cannot help but smile and wish to add that he was as wonderful a grandpa as everything else in his life. When I was younger we treasured the nights our Dad would take us to Remington’s to watch my mom and grandpa perform. Although much of my excitement was for the Shirley Temples and Potato Chips, it always felt special whenever anybody gathered around to watch my grandpa at the piano.

I have never in my life been around somebody who cared about and loved their craft as much as my grandfather. Of the many things I admire about him, I think that stands out most. He was passionate about the things most important to him whether it was his family, his faith, or his Bears & Cubbies. I’m thankful for all the days I got to spend with him enjoying those things, even if it involved some occasional yelling at the television.

Each memory of my grandfather’s performances is a happy one. When I first started going through his collection of CD’s, all the joy of those memories came rushing back. I often listened to the albums with songs ‘Just Us’ played at Remington’s, but also fell in love with ballads and live performances I had never heard. I am forever grateful for the gift his music has been to my family, especially this last year.

Thank you to Alice and Dave Burba for all of their help with this whole entire project. We’re so excited to share all the music my grandfather was so passionate about and could not have done it without all of their help!

And thank you to my Poppa, Danny Long for being the best.
